UD Songo wer held to a 1-1 home draw by Al Hilal in a group stage 2018 CAF Confederation Cup matchat Estadio do Ferroviario on Sunday afternoon.
The teams drew 2-2 in Omdurman earlier in the month, and this second sharing of the spoils sees the Mozambicans remain in last place in Group B on two points, while the Sudanese giants are third on three points. The other group game sees Al Masry host RS Berkane later this evening.
Songo got off to a flyer and claimed the lead in the fifth minute, with Mario Simamunda getting the better of Hilal goalkeeper Younis El Tayeb.
The Mozambicans generally enjoyed the upper hand through the first half, though Hilal did force a couple of saves out of the home side’s goal-minder Leonel Pendula.
The Sudanese side continued to build pressure early in the second half and were rewarded eight minutes after the restart, with Sharafeldin Shaiboub finishing off a well-worked move to make it 1-1.
Both sides pushed for further goals in what remained of the match, but just as in their clash earlier in July there was nothing to separate them.
The teams will return to Confederation Cup action on August 19, with Songo hosting Al Masry and Al Hilal at home to RS Berkane.
