Nigerian Michael Babatunde says Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca have a good chance to defend their CAF Champions League title.
The North African side are top of Group C in the competition after claiming a 2-0 home win over Horoya on Saturday night.
They lead the standings with eight points, Horoya and Mamelodi Sundowns have five points apiece in sharing second place, and AS Togo-Port bring up the rear with three points.
Babatunde played an influential role in Wydad’s win over the Guinea side, providing an assist for the second goal, scored by Mohamed Ounajem. The first was netted by Cheick Comara.
Babatunde has now registered two assists in an as many Champions League games for the Moroccan giants and is becoming a key player for the reigning African kings.
“We are close to making it to the [quarterfinals] again but we still need to be consistent,” Babatunde told Complete Sports Nigeria.
“We have a good chance to win this tournament again but we must work harder.
“I’m enjoying my football again and I hope to win this Cup with Wydad.”
Babatunde will hope to feature for his club when they play their matchday four fixture at home to Sundowns on August 17 and wrap up the group stage away to Togo-Port 11 days later.
