It was the worst possible start to the new season for SuperSport United who suffered a 2-0 loss to Cape Town City in a 2018/19 Absa Premiership match at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday night.
While the side from Tshwane started well and dominated large portions of the match, their decision making and passing in the final third was poor which resulted in them creating very few decent chances on goal.
City, on the other hand, look sharp in front of goal and proved clinical when given the chance to start the league season on a very positive note.
SuperSport came close to opening the scoring in the 13th minute when Evans Rusike turned his marker on the edge of the box, but his curling effort was brilliantly saved by the keeper.
In the 20th minute City created their first chance when Riyaad Norodien beat two defenders before unleashing a powerful 20-yard shot, but his effort was well-saved by the SuperSport keeper.
Norodien was in the thick of the action again the 38th minute when he found space on the edge of the box, but again Ronwen Williams pulled of a fantastic save to deny him.
The first half ended 0-0.
Ten minutes into the second half City took the lead thanks to a spectacular 16-yard volley from Roland Putsche, 1-0.
The home side doubled their lead in the 67th minute when substitute and birthday boy Craig Martin found himself in space inside the box at the far post and produced a clinical finish to make it 2-0.
SuperSport spent the last half hour of the match on the attack, but they squandered their possession with poor passing and bad shooting.
In the end SuperSport went down 2-0 to City.
