Keanu Cupido scored the only goal of the game as Cape Town City beat Maritzburg United 1-0 at the Harry Gwala Stadium in Pietermaritzburg on Sunday.
Victory confirmed the Citizens place in the MTN8 semifinals where they will come up against Mamelodi Sundowns over two legs. Defending champions SuperSport United will take on Kaizer Chiefs for a place in the final.
Following a rather cagey start in the KwaZulu-Natal province, the game finally sparked into life just short of the half-hour mark as Siphelele Mthembu fired two unsuccessful attempts at goal.
The Citizens dominated the ensuing minutes with Roland Putsche unlucky to see his glancing header fly inches wide in the 34th minute.
The opener finally came on the cusp of half-time as Cupido stroked the ball home from a corner-kick. Richard Ofori guilty of missing the ball completely, leaving the young defender with an open net, 1-0.
Mohau Mokate guided his diving header inches wide of goal straight after the break as the Team of Choice went in search of the equalizer.
Peter Leeuwenburgh, though, was hardly tested in the City goal throughout as City ultimately held on to book their place in the next round.
