Despite being heavily linked with a move to the French Ligue 1, Samuel Eto'o was late on Monday evening unveiled as Qatar Sports Club's latest signing.

The former Cameroon international joins former Barcelona teammate Xavi in he Qatari league after leaving Turkish club Konyaspor by mutual consent a few weeks ago.

Eto'o, 37, expressed earlier this month that he is eager to play two more seasons before hanging up his scoring boots. But, despite being linked to several clubs in France, the forward has decided to join the Qatari outfit.

The four-time African Footballer of the Year was presented to the media with several high profile dignitaries in attendance. Eto'o was also presented with the captain's armband and will reportedly don the number 81 (he was born in 1981) on his back.

"I'm so happy to join the this club and I'm proud to play in the [2022 FIFA] World Cup [host] country," said Eto'o "The good reputation of the Qatari league made me agree to the offer,"

Eto'o, who is the Africa Cup of Nations all-time top goal scorer, scored 56 goals in 118 games for the Indomitable Lions having made his debut for his country one day before his 16th birthday over two decades ago. He also won the UEFA Champions League on three occasions in what has been a glittering career.
