Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Pitso Mosimane has reasoned why it makes sense for the club to be interested in signing Phakamani Mahlambi, but believes that even the Brazilians won't be able to afford him.

Mahlambi has been hotly tipped with a move away from Egyptian giants Al Ahly throughout the transfer window, with the club having communicated that they are willing to sell the Bafana Bafana international if they are offered the "right price".

Mosimane is eager to bolster his attacking options following the departure of Khama Billiat and Percy Tau over the past few months, and Mahlambi is a player Mosimane has identified as the ideal replacement.

“Am I interested in signing a 20-year-old, whose quick, Bafana player, big room for improvement? I see him following the route of 20-year-old Bongani Zungu who we signed and went to Europe. We signed a 20-year-old Keagan Dolly and he went to Europe. We had Percy Tau from 16 or 17 and he went to Europe,” Mosimane is quoated as saying.

“Does it make sense to sign Phakamani? If I look at the reference of what I have said, I think it makes sense. We like him, but we probably can’t afford him.”

Mahlambi joined the Red Devils from Bidvest Wits last year, but has failed to make the desired impact at the club.
