Mamelodi Sundowns will play no further part in the 2018 CAF Champions League following a 0-0 draw against Horoya at the Lucas Moripe Stadium on Tuesday evening.

The Brazilians had to win to advance into the knockout stages of the competition at the expense of Horoya, but failed to find the back of the net on a frustrating night for Pitso Mosimane's men.

Horoya duly booked their place in the quarterfinals alongside defending champions Wydad Casablanca.

Sundowns desperately went in search of an early goal to settle their nerves, but Horoya stood firm and when Jeremy Brockie finally fired a shot in anger Khadim N'Diaye was well positioned to make a good save.

Gastón Sirino should've opened the scoring for the hosts of the cusp of half-time. Tebogo Langerman burst down the left flank before firing a low cross into a dangerous area, but the Uruguayan failed to convert with the goal at his mercy.

The Horoya defence continued to prove difficult to penetrate following the break as the Guinea club grew in confidence with every minute. Denis Onyango had to be at his very best once more in the 57th minute to stop Brefo Mensah's free-kick from finding the bottom left-corner.

Sundowns continued to press forward and were desperately unlucky not to hit the front six minutes later as Langerman's powerful shot cannoned off the woodwork and out of anger.

Despite piling bodies forward in the closing stages of the match, Sundowns failed in their attempt to find the killer blow as their CAFCL dream ultimately ended in heartbreak.
