A mistake by Free State Stars goalkeeper Olivier Kwizera in the dying minutes of the tie saw his side draw 2-2 with Cape Town City in an Absa Premiership match at Goble Park on Wednesday night.
Kwizera was at fault for Stars’ opening goal, but the side from the Free State looked to have sealed victory after coming from behind, that was until another mistake by the keeper in injury time cost them again.
The side from Cape Town started the better of the two sides when they took the lead five minutes into the tie when Matthew Rusike pounced on a loose ball inside the box after the Stars keeper spilled the ball into his path and duly fired home, 1-0.
Ten minutes later the visitors came close to finding their second goal when Craig Martin met an inch perfect cross, but his header went wide of the gaol.
The home side struggled for possession in the opening half and chances on goal were few and far between.
In fact, Stars only real chance on goal came in the 35th minute following a 25-yard shot from Makhehlene Makhaula, but his stinging effort was saved by the City keeper.
The half ended on a rather sour note for City who saw Roland Putsche leave the field injured and replaced by Thabo Nodada in the 44th minute.
Stars took the game by the scruff of the neck in the second half and quickly levelled matters when Bangali Keita fired a 24-yard free-kick into the net in the 58th minute, 1-1.
Five minutes later the home side took the lead when Goodman Dlamini produced some magic to find space inside the box before firing home, 2-1.
City tried to find an equaliser as they threw players forward, but Stars looking to be heading for a win.
Martin, though, was having none of that forced the equaliser in the 93rd minute when his attempt was turned into the net by Stars goalkeeper Kwizera, 2-2.
