Aduana Stars Chief Executive Albert Commey has rubbished the suggestion that his club took a ‘paid loss’ to Raja Casablanca in the CAF Confederation Cup.

The Ghanaian side suffered a 6-0 thrashing in Casablanca on Wednesday night. While the result made no difference to Stars’ fate in the competition, as they had no chance of reaching the quarterfinals, it cost fellow West Africans ASEC Mimosas the chance of advancing.

The Ivorian giants claimed an impressive 2-0 home win in a concurrent match against AS Vita, but Raja’s win ensured that they qualified for the knockout rounds alongside the DRC side.

Stars fans and local media have questioned the heavy defeat suffered by the Ghana Premier League champions, suggesting that they were paid to lose.

Yet Commey has labelled these claims as ‘laughable’ and insists it is insulting to insinuate that the Aduana club lost deliberately.

“Those who are rumouring that we sold the match doesn't know what they are saying. I don't know what they will get out of it. It is never true. I feel hurt when I hear these things so I beg them, sometimes it happens,” Commey told Sika FM, as quoted by Ghana Soccer Net.

''I have read a lot of these things on social media and some of them are laughable. We should rather look at the way when we go to Africa, we will unite [rather] than making sure we [are] eliminated and come out with certain statements which are not acceptable.”
