Cape Verde Islands will target an away win over Lesotho when the teams meet for a Group L match in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers at the Setsotso Stadium in Maseru on Sunday, September 9, kick-off at 15h00 CAT.
Lesotho are placed second on the group log, level on one point with Tanzania after the teams played out a 1-1 draw in Dar Es Salaam in June last year. Mbwana Samatta and Thapelo Tale were on target in the match, giving Likuena a solid start in their bid to qualify for the AFCON finals for the first time.
Cape Verde come into the match sitting at the bottom of the standings. Their campaign opened on a low note as they were beaten 1-0 by Uganda at the National Stadium in Praia. The Blue Sharks will need a quick recovery if they are to return to the continental finals, having previously appeared at the 2013 and 2015 editions.
Lesotho were last in official action in the Cosafa Cup in South Africa in late May and early June, where they recoded 1-0 win over Swaziland and Madagascar, sandwiching a goalless stalemate with Zimbabwe.
Cape Verde played tow friendlies in early June, defeating Algeria 3-2 and playing out a 0-0 draw with Andorra in Almada, Portugal.
This will be the first official international between Lesotho and Cape Verde, with Algerian official Mehdi Abid Charef set to officiate the game in Maseru.
The other Group L match takes place in Kira on Saturday, September 8 and sees Uganda host Tanzania in an East African derby.
