Cape Verde are still bottom of Group L in their 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifying campaign following a 1-1 draw with Lesotho at the Setsoto Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
It was not the most enticing of games with chances on goal few and far between for both sides.
Lesotho certainly had the support of the home crowd and they controlled the flow of play early on, but they struggled in the final third which saw the supports packed inside the stadium go quiet.
Consequently, Cape Verde grew in confidence an finished the first half the stronger of the two sides, but they were unable to break the deadlock before the break.
The start of the second half saw Cape Verde continued to dictate terms but their shooting in front of goal was poor as they often skewed their efforts wide of the target.
Cape Verde’ momentum began to die out and Lesotho saw more of the ball in the closing stages of the match as they took the lead with a goal in the 77th minute courtesy of a strike from Sera Motebang, 1-0.
Cape Verde, though, quickly hit back with Jorge Djaniny finding the equaliser in the 82nd minute to see the match ended 1-1.
The match did end on a sour note for Cape Verde ended with ten men following a red card in the 85th minute.
The result, combined with Uganda’s goalless draw against Tanzania in Group L’s other match on Saturday, sees Cape Verde at the bottom of the standings with one point.
Uganda top Group L with four points while Tanzania and Lesotho are second and third with two points each.
Lesotho (0) 1 (Motebang 77’)
Cape Verde (0) 1 (Djaniny 82’)
