Congo and Zimbabwe played to a 1-1 stalemate in a Group G 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Stade Alphonse Massemba-Débat in Brazzaville on Sunday afternoon.
The hosts leveled matters through Thievy Bifouma after Khama Billiat had opened the scoring for the Warriors in the Congolese capital.
Victory moves Zimbabwe a point clear of DR Congo who are away to Liberia in Monrovia this evening. Congo remain winless following two rounds of fixtures, having suffered defeat in Kinshasa last year.
Khama Billiat opened the scoring in Brazzaville following a flowing move in the 22nd minute. The Kaizer Chiefs attacker linked up well with Knowledge Musona who teed up his teammate for an easy finish, to silence the home crowd.
Zimbabwe should've doubled their lead four minutes later after Evans Rusike played in Musona, but the forward directed his initial effort straight at Chansel Massa before guiding the rebound wide with the goal at his mercy.
Congo looked a different unit following the break and duly leveled matters in the 50th minute through Bifouma. So often the Red Devils go-to man, the forward proved his quality once more with a neat finish.
The hosts looked most likely to grab a late winner, but the best chance of the closing stages fell to Musona who was well denied by Massa in the 77th minute.
The Red Devils shot-stopper with a diving save to keep out the forward's rasping effort from the edge of the area as the two teams ultimately settled for a point apiece.
