Jacinto Gelson Dala scored the only goal of the game as Angola claimed a 1-0 win over Botswana in a Group I 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Estádio 11 de Novembro in Luanda on Sunday.
The hosts opened the scoring on the half-hour mark following a sustained spell of pressure which saw both Djalma Campos and Alfredo Kulembe go close.
Mwampole Masule did excellently well to keep out Kulembe moments before Dala fired home for the Palancas Negras
The shot-stopper, though, could do nothing to deny Dala and remained rooted to his spot as the attacker weaved his way into space before curling a precise shot into the corner of the net to give the hosts a deserved 1-0 lead at the break.
Botswana improved following the interval, with their best chance falling to Onkabetse Makgantai in the 78th minute.
The Zebras looked sure to find the back of the net through Makgantai's header, but Landu Mavanga produced an outstanding stop to tip the effort onto the crossbar before pouncing on rebound.
The Zebras continued to pile on the pressure in the closing stages of the clash, but Angola ultimately held on to claim all three points.
Victory moves Angola level on points with Burkina Faso who suffered defeat away to group leaders Mauritania on Saturday. Botswana drop to the foot of the table following a second successive defeat.
