Togo are still winless after playing to a goalless draw against Benin at the Stade Municipal Lome on Sunday night in their second Group D match of their 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifying campaign.
The result, combined with Algeria’s 1-1 draw against The Gambia in Group D’s other game on Saturday, sees Togo stone last on the standings with one point to their name.
Algeria and Benin sit tie at the top of Group D with four points while The Gambia are third with three points.
The game itself at the Stade Municipal Lome on Sunday was not the most entertaining with both sides poor in the final third.
Togo did control the flow of play early on and were encouraged by the support of the home crowd, but their shooting was poor as they struggled to hit the target with their attempts.
Benin, on the other hand, offered very little in the way of attack and were happy to get to the break locked at 0-0.
The start of the second half saw Togo continue to dictate terms but they squandered possession with poor passing and bad decision making.
Togo’s momentum began to die out and Lesotho saw more of the ball in the closing stages of the match, but they did not do much with it as the match ended goalless.
