Míchel Salgado expressed his delight in Egypt's perfect start to life under Javier Aguirre this past weekend.
The Pharaohs cruised to a 6-0 win over Niger in a Group J 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Borg El Arab Stadium on Saturday. Victory moved the seven-time Afcon champions up to second place in their group, three points behind Tunisia.
Real Madrid legend, Salgado, took over the reins as Egypt's assistant coach earlier this month following Aguirre's appointment. The Mexican mentor replaced Hector Cuper in aftermath of a disappointing 2018 FIFA World Cup showing for Egypt who lost all three of their games in Russia.
“We picked a good number of players and worked hard to get the result," Salgado is quoted as saying by KingFut.com.
"Our performance was good and we definitely deserved the win. We aimed to control the match and it was a perfect first result for us. Egyptian footballers have got many good abilities."
Egypt next face Swaziland in back-to-back qualifiers next month.
