Reports suggest that Medhi Benatia is considering retiring from international duty with Morocco, after he was snubbed by head coach Herve Renard for the country's recent 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
The 31-year-old, who captained the Atlas Lions at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, was not part of the squad that took on Malawi this past weekend.
According to RMC Sport, Benatia is now considering hanging up his international boots with the Juventus centre-back to focus on club football.
Benatia has racked up 58 caps for Morocco since making his debut 10 years ago. The former Roma and Bayern Munich defender was born in France, but decided to represent Morocco at international level.
Former Feyenoord midfielder Karim El Ahmadi donned the armband in Benatia's absence as the North Africans cruised to a comfortable 3-0 win over Malawi in Casablanca.
