Al Ahly were held to a goalless draw by Horoya in their first-leg 2018 CAF Champions League quarterfinal clash at the Stade du 28 Septembre in Conakry on Friday evening.
On a night of few chances, the best opportunity of the first half came via a deflected effort following a dangerous cross into the area by Ali Maaloul in the 31st minute. The ball whistled narrowly wide of the woodwork to the relief of the home fans.
Al Ahly improved following the interval and the eight-time champions should've opened the scoring in the 76th minute after Islam Mohareb sent Salah Mohsen through on goal, but the latter was brilliantly denied by Germain Berthe.
Mohsen had another chance to fire the visitors in front nine minutes later, but the forward fired his resulting effort well off target with the goal at his mercy.
The result gives Horoya more than a chance in the Egyptian capital next weekend, knowing that a score-draw will be enough to send them into the final four.
The revere fixture will take place in Cairo next Saturday, 22 September.
