Golden Arrows will be desperate to break their winless streak in the Absa Premiership when they host Chippa United at Princess Magogo Stadium on 22 September 2018, kick-off at 15h00.
Arrows have gone five matches without a win in the league and suffered a second straight loss when they were beaten 1-0 at home by Mamelodi Sundowns on September 19. The Durban side have not won since the opening weekend of the season.
Abafana Bes’thende have claimed just three points from a possible nine at home so far in 2018/19 and they will need to improve that record if they are to move up the table.
Chippa claimed their first league win of the season when they defeated Baroka FC 1-0 at home on September 15, with long-serving attacker Andile Mbenyane netting the decisive goal.
The Chilli Boys have suffered defeats in both of their away matches so far this campaign, going down 0-2 and 1-2 at Bloemfontein Celtic and SuperSport United respectively.
In head-to-head stats, Arrows and Chippa have met in eight league matches since 2012/13. Abafana Bes’thende have claimed three wins compared to one for the Chilli Boys, while four matches have ended in draws. The Durban side has recoded two wins, one draw and one defeat in four games as hosts.
Last season the teams cancelled each other out, playing to a 1-1 draw in KwaZulu-Natal and a goalless stalemate in the return game in the Eastern Cape. Four of the clubs’ last five league meetings have finished in draws.
Arrows’ line-up from their 1-0 loss to Sundowns on September 19: Gumede, Lunga, Mazava, Mngwengwe, Sibisi, Sibeko (Magubane 75'), Phiri, Molefe (Zuke 60'), Venter (Jooste 60'), Lamola, Mutizwa.
Chippa’s line-up from their 1-0 win over Baroka on September 15: Akpeyi, Macheke, Tlolane, Nsabiyumva, Nthethe, Komane, Malepe, Mayambela, Klate (Rakhale 59’), Lentjies (Manzini R 71’), Mbenyane (Sali 90’).
