Former Egypt international Ahmed 'Mido' Hossam has backed Mohamed Salah to regain the sort of form he showed last season.

Salah returned to scoring ways for Liverpool in a 3-0 win over Southampton in the English Premier League this past weekend. The goal was his third in seven matches across all competitions this season.

The 26-year-old hasn't quite showcased the sort of form that propelled the Reds to the UEFA Champions League final last season, and him to several personal accolades to boot.

'Mido', though, is not surprised that Salah has found life more difficult in his second season at Anfield.

“The second season anywhere is always harder. The English call it the hangover season,” Mido told MBC Masr TV channel.

“First of all, the players you faced before now know your style. If you watched Liverpool’s game with Leicester City you will notice that their goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel was anticipating Salah’s shots before he actually sent them.”

'Mido' continued: "I am positive that Salah’s teammates want to help him get back on track because one of his main assets is his good relations with everyone around him and that is important.

“He has to lose the pressure he’s carrying. Everyone is adding more and more pressure on him. Football is not easy, you have to be smart to be able to play without any stress.

"He is already a great player and doesn’t need to prove anything to anyone."
