It has been revealed that former Egypt head coach Héctor Cúper surprisingly excluded Mohamed Salah from his top three picks for the FIFA The Best Men's Player accolade.
Cúper, who is now in charge of the Uzbekistan National Team, parted ways with the Pharaohs following a disappointing FIFA World Cup return for the North Africans who lost all three of their group stage matches in Russia.
Instead of Salah, Cúper nominated fellow countryman Lionel Messi as his top pick ahead of Cristiano Ronaldo and eventual winner Luka Modric.
Current Egypt head coach Javier Aguirre in contrast opted for Salah as his top pick followed by Modric and Antoine Griezmann.
Salah, who failed to make the FIFA FIFAPro World 11 despite being in the top three nominees for The Best FIFA Men's Player award, enjoyed a stellar 2017-18 campaign for Liverpool.
The FIFA Puskás award winner scored 44 goals for the Reds last season as they reached the UEFA Champions League final. He also helped Egypt to their first World Cup appearance in 28 years.
