Cameroon head coach Clarence Seedorf has recalled Christian Bassogog to the national team for the country's upcoming 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Malawi.

In an unusually early announcement, the Cameroon Federations announced their squad for next month's matches on Monday with Bassogog among those included.

This comes shortly after fellow China-based forward and former captain ,Benjamin Moukandjo, announced his international retirement at the age 29.

Moukandjo stated that he decided to call time on his Indomitable Lions career following comments from Seedorf. The Dutch footballing legend said ahead of the country's match against Comoros that "good young players don't compete in China or in Asia."

Seedorf, though, hasn't taken long to go back on his word with Bassogog, who plies his trade at Henan Jianye in the China Super League, getting the nod for matches against the Flames.

Bassogog was named as the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations Player of the Tournament as Cameroon claimed their fifth crown with victory over Egypt in the final.

Cameroon have already qualified for the 2019 showpiece by virtue of being hosts.
