Bafana Bafana have suffered another injury blow ahead of their back-to-back 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against the Seychelles this month.
South Africa's Team Doctor, Thulani Ngwenya, on Wednesday confirmed that the Mamelodi Sundowns midfielder ruptured his left tendon Achilles in a practice match against SuperSport United.
Stuart Baxter's troops won the game 1-0 thanks to a goal from France-based Lebo Mothiba.
Vilakazi's injury follows that of injuries sustained by Thapelo Morena and Vincent Pule in build-up to the clash. Cape Town City's Gift Links has since replaced the former Bidvest Wits skipper ahead Saturday's showdown at FNB Stadium.
The injury to the 28-year-old will come as a blow to both South Africa and Sundowns with Vilakazi set to face a few months on the sidelines.
South Africa currently occupy second spot in their qualifying group having followed a 2-0 win over Nigeria with a goalless draw at home to Libya last time out.
