Angola thumped a stubborn Mauritania side 4-1 in the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualification Group I match at the Estádio 11 de Novembro in Luanda on Friday.
The victory saw Palancas Negras extend their lead at the top of the group standings, while Al Murabitun remained second on the table.
Palancas Negras were eyeing their second successive win in their qualifying campaign having defeated Botswana 1-0 at home last month.
While Al Murabitun were also targeting another victory having stunned Burkina Faso 2-0 at home in their previous Group I match.
The visitors took a surprise lead through Sidi El Hacen, who hit the back of the net three minutes into the game to make it 1-0 to Mauritania.
However, the hosts hit back through Mateus, who scored from the spot-kick to make it 1-1 for Angola in the 13th minute after the away side had conceded a penalty.
Palancas Negras piled pressure on the Al Murabitun defence and they took the lead in the 16th minute through Mateus, who grabbed his brace - making it 2-0 to Angola.
The score was 2-1 to Angola during the half-time break.
The hosts extended their lead seven minutes into the second-half and it was Djalma, who found the back of the net to make it 3-1 to Angola.
Al Murabitun tried to pull one back with France-based forward Mamadou Niass leading their attack.
However, it was the hosts, who scored the next goal through Gerson in the 80th minute sealing Angola's 4-1 victory over Mauritania on the day.
