South Sudan will be gunning for their first win their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign when they host Gabon in a Group C match at the Juba Stadium on Tuesday.

The match is scheduled to get underway at 15h00.

South Sudan will also be looking for revenge over Gabon who thrashed them 3-0 in an Afcon qualifier this past Saturday thanks to goals from Denis Bouanga, Aaron Appindangoye and Hassan Martin.

South Sudan really have had a miserable time in qualifying with three losses from as many matches as they occupy bottom of Group C with zero points. They have lost every game 3-0 to Burundi, Mali and Gabon.

In retrospect, Gabon’s win over South Sudan last week was their first in qualifying but it still only sees them place third in Group C with four points, a point behind second-placed Burundi and three points behind leaders Mali.

Gabon’s Afcon qualifying campaign started poorly with an opening day 2-1 loss to Mali which was followed up with a 1-1 draw with Burundi before securing the 3-0 win over South Sudan.

That win was Gabon’s second in 2018 from five matches and they will be eager to repeat the feat to challenge for a spot at Afcon 2019. They will certainly fancy their chances against a South Sudan side who has not won a match in their last eight international outings.
