Zimbabwe will look to maintain the top spot in their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying group when they host DRC in a Group G match at the National Sports Stadium in Harare on Tuesday.

The match is scheduled to get underway at 19h00.

Not only would a win maintain Zimbabwe’s place at the summit of Group G, but it would also secure them qualification for next year’s Afcon tournament in Cameroon.

The Southern Africans currently top Group G with seven points, three above their DRC opponents and Congo in third place while Liberia are last with only a point to their name.

Zimbabwe started their qualifying campaign with a bang after beating Liberia 3-0 back in June last year, but stumbled a little last month with a 1-1 draw away to Congo.

Inevitably, though, Zimbabwe bounced back with a 2-1 win over DRC this past Saturday thanks to goals from Ronald Pfumbidzai and Knowledge Musona. Musona, however, will miss his country’s match on Tuesday after he was red-carded in that match.

Zimbabwe have also been in fine form on the international stage and are on a run of five matches unbeaten, registering four wins and one draw.

DRC, on the other hand, will be looking to stop Zimbabwe in their tracks and also looking for a little revenge.

Much like Zimbabwe, DRC started their qualifying campaign well with a 3-1 win over Congo last year June which was followed by a 1-1 draw away to DRC. They suffered their first last this past weekend and will be looking to make up for it.

DRC have been struggling of late on the international stage and have gone the last four matches without a win, registering two losses and two draws. Their last victory came in November last year when they beat Guinea 3-1 in a World Cup qualification match.
