Zimbabwe maintained their spot at the top of their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying group with a 1-1 draw against the DRC at the National Sports Stadium in Harare on Tuesday.

The home started like a house on fire and opened the scoring two minutes into the tie with Khama Billiat finding the back of the net with a clinical finish, 1-0.

The shock of going behind early on inspired DRC to push players forwarded and they were rewarded for their efforts when Teenage Hadebe turned the ball into his own net to level matters in the 24th minute, 1-1.

Both sides played attacking football in the final stages of the opening half, but neither could add to the goal tally and they entered the break level-pegging.

The second half saw Zimbabwe with more of the ball, but their passing and decision making in the final third was poor. Consequently, there were very few chances on goal.

DRC offered very little in terms of attack in the second half and seemed content to settle for a point away from home as the match ended 1-1.

The draw sees Zimbabwe on eight points at the top of Group G while DRC are second with five points, but the standing of DRC could change depending on the other group game between Liberia and Congo which is currently underway after an 20h00 (CAT) kick-off.
