Liberia beat Congo 2-1 at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex in Monrovia on Tuesday to duly keep their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations hopes alive.
The Lone Stars were in desperate need of a win following a three game winless run in the qualifiers and got just that, with a hard fought victory in the Liberian capital.
Liberia hit the front as early as the eighth minute through Teah Dennis. William Jebor doubled the hosts lead six minutes later to send the fans into absolute delirium as they looked well on course for all three points.
Congo, though, put those hopes in doubt as they pulled a goal back through Prince Ibara a minute later.
The Red Devils, who had defeated the same opponents 3-1 in Brazzaville this past weekend pushed for the equaliser, but Liberia ultimately held on to claim a much needed victory.
Victory moves Liberia level on four points with Congo in Group G with two rounds of qualifiers remaining. Zimbabwe lead the way with eight points, followed by DR Congo on five.
