Defender William Troost-Ekong has hailed Nigeria’s team spirit following their dramatic 3-2 win over Libya earlier in the week.

The Super Eagles found themselves 2-0 up in their 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against the Mediterranean Knights in Sfax, but the North Africans fought back to level the game at 2-2 and threatened to go on and complete what would have been a stunning turnaround – especially after Nigeria beat them 4-0 in Uyo last weekend.

Yet Odion Ighalo struck his fifth goal in the space of two games against the Libyans to see Nigeria win 3-2 and move to the verge of qualification for the 2019 finals in Cameroon.

“Great team spirit last night away against Libya, good fight to take home the three points in the end,” Troost-Ekong posted on Instagram.

Meanwhile, Nigeria U-20 coach Paul Aigbogun has also weighed in with his opinion and agrees with Troost-Ekong that Nigeria’s togetherness was key.

“It was a great show of determination and teamwork by the Eagles to still have the tenacity and the willingness to secure a win after the Libyans staged a comeback in the game,” Aigbogun told Goal.

“The Eagles have shown that it is not how far but how well. Many people thought that the Eagles have been written off after they were beaten 2-0 at home by South Africa but they have done great amazing work to get maximum points from their next three games including two away wins.

“They will secure the AFCON ticket if they are able to pick a draw against South Africa in November and what this has told us is that with determination and teamwork things can go our way. The Eagles have exhibited that with the results they have got since the home loss to the Bafana Bafana.”
