SuperSport United booked their place in the quarterfinals of the Telkom Knockout following a 6-5 penalty shoot-out win over Polokwane City at the Old Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Sunday.
The game ended 1-1 after extra-time and after 11 successful spot-kicks, Ayanda Nkili blasted high and wide as Matsatsantsa duly booked their place in the last eight.
SuperSport started the game the brighter of the two teams and dominated most of the first-half, with Ghampani Lungu notable hitting the woodwork in the early exchanges of the clash.
The opening goal of the game finally came in the 77th minute through Thuso Phala, who made an almost instant impact after emerging off the bench in place of Aubrey Modiba.
Phala continued his love affair with the tournament, prodding home past Harold Ndlovu after running onto a long ball forward from Teboho Mokoena.
Matsatsanta looked on course to book their place in the next round, only for Edgar Manaka to nod home in the 91st minute to duly send the match into extra-time and ultimately penalties.
Following 11 faultless penalties in succession, Nkili blasted wide as SuperSport march into the final eight at Rise and Shine's expense.
