Nigerian striker Henry Onyekuru has made a quicker-than-expected recovery from injury and is back in training with Turkish Super Lig giants Galatasaray.

The 21-year-old, who is on loan in Istanbul from Premier League club Everton, was set to be sidelined for several with weeks with a hamstring injury he picked up while on international duty with the Super Eagles.

Yet the young attacker has made a shock recovery from the problem and is back in training with Gala – a major boost for manager Fatih Terim, whose side is in the midst of an injury crisis.

Yuto Nagatomo and Emre Akbaba are out with long-term issues, while the likes of Serdar Aziz, Fernando Reges and Sofiane Feghouli have more minor problems but are still set to miss Sunday’s Super Lig clash away to Yeni Malatyaspor.

Quite whether Onyekuru will be fit to start against Malatyaspor remains to be seen, but at least having the Nigerian on the bench as a possible substitute is more than Gala would have been hoping for at the start of the week.

Furthermore, the Nigerian could be in line to feature for Gala when they play their ‘Intercontinental Derby’ against hated rivals Fenerbahce next weekend.

Onyekuru has racked up two goals in 10 appearances (across both the Super Lig and UEFA Champions League) for Gala in the 2018/19 season.
