Ghana coach James Kwesi Appiah insists that a win over Ethiopia in their upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers will pave the way for the Black Stars to appear at the 2019 finals.

Ghana will tackle the East Africans at Addis Ababa Stadium on November 18, looking for a repeat of the 5-0 thrashing they handed the Wayla Antelopes when the teams met in Kumasi in June last year.

Appiah’s team come into the match placed only third on the Group F standings with three points – trailing Kenya (seven points) and Ethiopia (four points). However, the West African heavyweights have played two less matches than their rivals after their fixtures with Sierra Leone last month were cancelled.

This was due to FIFA’s suspension of the Sierra Leone FA. CAF has yet to announce a decision in regards to these two matches.

Nonetheless, Ghana’s coach is backing his side to take their destiny in their own hands when they play in the Ethiopian capital next weekend.

"So far we have kept on monitoring our players and I believe that now the concentration has been on how best we can qualify as soon as possible,” Appiah is quoted by the Daily Graphic.

“We have got two games ahead of us that we just need to get a win in Ethiopia and then we all can relax.”

The Black Stars mentor added, “We have had no problems as of now because the monitoring has been going on well. No injuries as of now, so hopefully by the end of this week we should look at the games and then bring out the final team for the Ethiopia game.”
