Sudan picked up their first win in their 2019 African Cup of Nations qualifying campaign after beating Madagascar 3-1 in a Group A match at the CNAPS Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

With Madagascar having already qualified for the Afcon in Cameroon next year there was not much at stake for them and it showed with Sudan bossing the majority of the game.

Despite playing away from home Sudan controlled the flow of play and opened the scoring as early as the third minute thanks to a strike from Muhanad Musa, 1-0.

Madagascar tried to find their way back into the match, but they could not break down the stubborn Sudan defence as the half ended 1-0.

Sudan continued to dominate proceedings in the second half and doubled their lead in the 69th minute thanks to a clinical finish from Abduaagla Abdallah, 2-0.

Madagascar did manage to pull a goal back in the 77th minute when Carolus Andriamatsinoro found the back of the net, 2-1.

Yassir Mozamil made certain of Sudan’s win with their third goal five minutes from time to seal a 3-1 victory.

Despite the win Sudan are still bottom of Group A with three points from five games, equal on points with Equatorial Guinea, but seven points behind second placed Madagascar.

Senegal top the group with 13 points after beating Equatorial Guinea 1-0 on Saturday.
