Ajax Amsterdam are the latest club to feel the strain of the international break with star midfielder Hakim Ziyech set to miss two weeks of action due to injury.

The Dutch giants confirmed via social media on Monday evening that Ziyech had picked up a knee injury, and will duly miss the club’s Uefa Champions League clash away to AEK Athens next week.

The 25-year-old, reining Dutch Eredivisie Player of the Season, is a key player for Ajax where he has excelled since his move from rivals FC Twente.

Ziyech has scored nine goals and assisted a further eight in 22 games across all competitions this season.

The Morocco international has also established himself as an integral part of Herve Renard’s set-up and with 12 goals in 23 matches from midfield, Ziyech is his country’s go-to-man.

The attacking midfielder scored a brace for the Atlas Lions in victory over Cameroon this past weekend as the North African’s successfully booked their spot at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations with one round of qualifiers remaining.
