Former Egypt international Mohamed Zidan lavished praise on Mohamed Salah following the Liverpool attackers' last-minute winner against Tunisia in Alexandria this past weekend.
The Pharaohs beat their North African rivals 3-2 at the Borg El Arab Stadium with Salah showing great composure and skill inside the area before firing home to send the fans into absolute delirium.
Salah, who has scored 39 goals in 62 appearances for Egypt, is third on Egypt's all-time top goalscorer list, with his strike against Tunisia having taken him above the legendary Mohamed Aboutrika.
Zidan believes that Salah plays an integral role in brining hope to the Egyptian people:
“He’s representing Egyptians very well in England and Liverpool. He’s doing very good and we all support him always,” Zidan told Goal.com.
“We all have his back and we always pray for him and always follow him because he is representing us as Egyptians and as Arabs.
“He’s a good example, as we were before – me and other Egyptian colleagues who played in Europe, like Mido, Ahmed Hassan and many other players who played in top leagues.
“Now Mo Salah is continuing the legacy of Egyptian players in Europe to make the Egyptian kids keep dreaming, because he’s one of us.
“Today is Mo Salah time, it is going very well, he is giving hope to all Egyptians and then in the future it will be other kids from Egypt that will play in Europe," he concluded.
Having helped his country return to the FIFA World Cup for the first time in over two decades, the 26-year-old will be hoping to lead Egypt to 2019 Africa Cup of Nations glory in Cameroon.
