Baroka FC and Bidvest Wits will battle for a place in the final of the Telkom Knockout when they meet at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday, 25 November 2018, kick-off at 15h00.
Baroka earned their place in the final four with successive 2-0 wins over Golden Arrows and Mamelodi Sundowns in the last 16 and quarterfinals respectively. The latter victory – secured by a penalty from Mduduzi Mdantsane and an own goal from Brazilians goalkeeper Reyaad Pieterse – was the surprise result of the tournament thus far.
Bakgaga are playing in just their third edition of the Telkom Knockout and reaching the semifinals represents their best ever showing in the tournament.
Wits reached the semis thanks to a 1-0 away win over Free State Stars in the last 16 and a 2-1 triumph at Maritzburg United in the quarterfinals, where an own goal from Nazeer Allie and strike by Buhle Mkhwanazi proved the difference.
The Clever Boys are the reigning Telkom Knockout champions (and three-time winners of the League Cup overall) and looking to defend their crown in 2018.
This will be the second year that Baroka and Wits meet in the TKO. Last season (in their first-ever cup meeting) the Clever Boys defeated Bakgaga 1-0 in the quarterfinals thanks to a goal from Egyptian forward Amr Gamal.
The teams have also clashed in four league matches since Baroka’s promotion at the start of the 2016/17 season – Wits are unbeaten in the sequence, with a record of three wins and one draw. The stalemate was in the most recent match between the clubs, a league clash in Johannesburg in March 2018.
