Egyptian Premier League (EPL) giants Al Ahly have announced the suspension of club captain Hossam Ashour.
Sayed Abdel-Hafiz, the Al Ahly football director, imposed a hefty fine on defensive midfielder after his actions during a match with Al Wasl.
Al Ahly crashed out of the Arab Club Championship after drawing 1-1 with Al Wasl at the Zabeel Stadium in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Ashour clashed with Moroccan referee Noureddine Jaafari and he was red-carded during the last 16 encounter.
The Red Devils have since released the following statement:
"Sayed Abdel Hafiz, Acting Director of football Ahly, decided to impose a heavy financial penalty on the team captain Hossam Ashour, because of what he said after the match (against) Al Wasl in UAE, which saw his object the way the match was officiated."
"Al Ahly drew 1-1 with Al Wasl in the match that was played at the Zabeel Stadium and they (Al Wasl) qualified for the quarter-finals of the Zayed Cup Champions League after winning on aggregate, with the first leg having ended in a draw 2-2," (translated from Arabic) a statement read.
