Al Ahly will name Patrice Carteron's successor in the next 10 days, according to reports coming from out of Egypt.

The Frenchman was sacked late last week after he fell short of leading the Egyptian giant to what would've been a record-extending ninth Caf Champions League title.

Al Ahly lost 4-3 on aggregate to Esperance de Tunis in the final of Africa's premier cup competition, while also bowing out of the Arab Club Championship in the early rounds - duly resulting in the club parting ways with the former TP Mazembe boss.

Carteron had only taken over the reins at the 'Red Devils' in June following the sacking of Hossam El Badry.

Al Ahly return to league action on Tuesday as they start to play catch-up with their continental commitment having caused a major backlog.

The 'Red Devils' have played nine games fewer than some of their league counterparts and currently occupy bottom spot, 18 points behind their fierce rivals Zamalek.

Mohamed Youssef has taken over as interim head coach and will lead the team until Carteron's successor is announced in coming days.
