Cameroonian defender Joel Matip has dismissed speculation linking him with a move away from Premier League giants Liverpool.
The 27-year-old has started just three games this season after falling behind Joe Gomez and Dejan Lovren in the pecking order to be Virgil van Dijk’s partner in central defence.
Matip has been linked with a move to Turkish Super Lig giants Fenerbahce, who would offer him the chance to have more regular game time.
Despite this, the defender insists his focus remains very much on his career at Anfield and he hopes to re-establish himself as a regular under Jurgen Klopp.
Matip told the Evening Standard: "I only concentrate now on the season on Liverpool and there's nothing else in my mind. Everything else would only distract me.
"I've got to wait for my opportunity, I have to work hard - this is the life of a player. I try to be in the best form I can be and to be ready if I had to be.”
Matip will hope to feature for the Reds when they take on Everton in the Merseyside derby at Anfield on Sunday evening.
