Egypt international Mohamed Salah finished in sixth place in the 2018 Ballon d'Or rankings, the highest ranked footballer from the African continent.

Luka Modric claimed the top prize on the evening, while 2018 FIFA World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe was the first ever winner of the Kopa Trophy for the best player under the age of 21.

Norway's Ada Hegerberg won the first ever Women's Ballon d'Or following yet another outstanding season for club side Lyon.

Salah scored 44 goals across all competitions for Liverpool last season, playing an integral role in the Reds run to the Uefa Champions League final in Kiev.

Liverpool teammate and Senegal international Sadio Mane finished in tied for 22nd.
