African stars Andre Ayew and Islam Slimani will work under a new manager at Turkish Super Lig giants Fenerbahce, after they confirmed the appointment of Ersun Yanal.
The Istanbul side parted ways with Phillip Cocu in late October and the Dutchman has been replaced in the permanent role by Yanal, who led Fenerbahce to the Turkish league title in 2013-14.
He signed a one-and-a-half-year contract with the Istanbul club, as confirmed by their website.
The 56-year-old has extensive experience in Turkish football, and his achievements also include runners-up finishes in the Turkish Cup in 2003 and 2004 while in charge of Genclerbirligi.
Yanal takes over a squad which features African stars such as Andre Ayew, Yassine Benzia, Islam Slimani and Nabil Dirar.
Fenerbahce also have the likes of Mauricio Isla, Mathieu Valbuena, Michel Frey and Roberto Soldado on their player roster.
Cocu, a former PSV Eindhoven manager, took over in June. Fenerbahce, one of the big three Istanbul clubs which dominate Turkish football, slumped towards the bottom end of the league during his time in charge.
The club is currently in the relegation zone, in 17th place with 14 points from 15 games.
Yanal’s first official match in charge of Fenerbahce will be on Monday evening when they host BB Erzurumspor.
