Brighton & Hove Albion defender Leon Balogun believes his side were unfortunate to lose 2-1 to Chelsea in the English Premier League this past weekend, but believes the Seagulls should take some confidence from the defeat.
The Blues hit the front through Pedro before Eden Hazard doubled the visitors lead before the break. Solly March pulled a goal back for the hosts as the Seagulls duly pressed for an equaliser, only to ultimately come up short a the Amex Stadium.
“We pushed a big side all the way on Sunday, and that’s something you have to enjoy - we’ve beaten Manchester United here already this campaign and ran Liverpool close, and those are the challenges you have to relish as a footballer, especially in front of your own fans," said Balogun as quoted by the club's official website.
“We could have easily got something from the game – we feel like we’ve given them two early Christmas presents.
“It’s a poor pass from me for the second, but we reacted to that after the break and did very well in the second half.
“I think we gave them a really hard time, and that’s why the disappointment is there for us.”
He added: "It has to give us confidence [the second half display] – we had them on the edge of getting a draw, nobody would have complained if we managed to get a point.”
Balogun has featured in six Enlgish Premier League games for Brighton this season, finding the back of the net on one occasion. He has started the club's last two league matches.
