According to Napoli chairman Aurelio De Laurentiis, the club rejected a bid of £95 million from Manchester United for the services of Kalidou Koulibaly.
Koulibaly has been hotly tipped with a move to the Red Devils in the New Year and De Laurentiis has now confirmed that the English club have made previous attempts to lure the burly centre-back to Old Trafford.
The Senegal international has established himself as one of the best defender's in Europe over the past few seasons, and despite having been linked with a move to both Chelsea and Manchester City in the past, the 27-year-old recently penned a fresh long-term deal with Napoli.
"[Jose] Mourinho wanted him, we rejected £95 million," De Laurentiis told the media at an event held at Corriere del Mezzogiorno. "But now it's impossibile that he leaves Napoli."
Mourinho was officially sacked by the Red Devils this week following a poor start to the 2018/19 season. United sit a massive 19 points behind English Premier League leaders Liverpool.
Koulibaly has played every minute for Napoli this season, captaining the side in their most recent encounter; a 1-0 win over Cagliari.
