Playoff round field completed after 16 games across the continent.

The playoff round field for the 2018/19 CAF Confederation Cup has been finalised after the completion of 16 first round, second-leg matches across the continent this past weekend.

Friday evening saw Petro de Luanda and Etoile de Sahel advance as expected, while the most drama-filled match of Saturday came from Butare in Rwanda, where hosts Mukura Sports Victory and Sudan’s Al Hilal Al Ubayyid drew 0-0 (both on the day and in the tie overall) – the East African side then completed a surprise victory by winning the penalty shootout 5-4.

Saturday also featured decisive home wins for Ghana’s Asante Kotoko, Ivorian side San Pedro and Algeria’s NA Hussein Dey, while RS Berkane, Kaizer Chiefs, Raja Casablanca, Salitas and KCCA all secured advancement with varying degrees of comfort.

Sunday’s feature result saw Nigerian side Enugu Rangers win 2-0 at home to USM Bel Abbes to advance by the same aggregate score, while Generation Foot beat Hassania Agadir 1-0 but it was not enough to turn around their tie.

In addition, CS Sfaxien and Zamalek lost their away matches to Green Buffaloes and AS Coton Tchad respectively but still advanced on the strength of their first-leg wins, and New Star edged Al Ahli Tripoli on away goals.

The 16 aggregate winners advance into the playoff round, where they are joined by the losers from the first round of the CAF Champions League.
