Exciting winger turned down Hoffenheim, Basel and Ajax.
New Al Ahly winger Mohamed Mahmoud has revealed that Eredivisie giants AFC Ajax were one of three European teams he rejected offers from.
The exciting 20-year-old will join the Red Devils from their fellow Egyptian Premier League side Wadi Degla in January 2019.
Mahmoud has signed a four-and-a-half year deal with the Cairo giants, boosting their hopes in both the domestic championship and in the CAF Champions League, where they have qualified for the group stage.
“I rejected offers from three European teams,” Mahmoud told satellite channel MBC on Wednesday, as quoted by Egyptian media outlet Ahram Online.
“The offers I got were from Germany’s Hoffenheim, Basel of Switzerland and Dutch club Ajax but I have decided to join Ahly,” he explained.
Mahmoud is one of just three new signings joining Ahly in the New Year, as they have also secured the services of left-back Mahmoud Wahid from Maqassa and winger Geraldo da Costa from Angolan side Primeiro de Agosto.
Earlier this month the club also announced the appointment of Uruguayan tactician Martin Lasarte to lead the team.
Ahly are currently seventh in the Egyptian league table with 23 points from 11 games, 12 points adrift of leaders Zamalek, who have played three more games.
