Sundowns coach says the Clever Boys will be ‘well-rested’.

Mamelodi Sundowns coach Pitso Mosimane insists that Bidvest Wits are the favourites for South Africa’s Absa Premiership.

The Clever Boys have a three-point lead at the top of the table, with Orlando Pirates in second place. Sundowns are back in fifth – eight points adrift of Wits, but with three matches in hand.

With Sundowns and Pirates both through to the group stage of the CAF Champions League, Mosimane believes that Wits (who are not involved in CAF club competition at this point) will have an edge in the second half of the 2018/19 domestic season.

"It’s going to be tough,” Mosimane said. “Remember, you must add six more games [to our schedule]. You also have to travel, so that’s why I tip Wits to be at the forefront because they will be a well-rested team.”

Mosimane points out that those not playing continental matches have a huge advantage.

"All they do is wait five or seven days and they play – how easy," the Downs coach said. "We will be in the flight, we will be in transit. It's a long way.

“We will see, that's big-league football. That's what we need. That's the marathon we’ve been talking about. If you want to compare, let's compare apples to apples.

"If you go 90km from Maritzburg to Durban, don't do 45 km and say you good, do 90km also.”
