SuperSport United will look to open the New Year with three Absa Premiership points when they host Cape Town City at Lucas Moripe Stadium on 5 January 2019, kick-off at 20h15.

SuperSport ended off 2018 with a 1-1 draw away to Highlands Park on December 23. The result (United’s fifth draw of the campaign) took them to third place on the log table.

Matsatsantsa have claimed 13 points from six home matches this season, with their last result as hosts a 1-0 win over Maritzburg United in mid-December.

City ended 2018 on a high as they came from two goals down to claim a 3-2 home win over Bloemfontein Celtic on December 22, with the fightback inspired by a brace from Bradley Ralani.

The Citizens have claimed just six points from as many away matches this season, with their last result on the road a 2-0 loss at Highlands Park in early December.

In head-to-head stats, City and SuperSport have met in five league matches since the start of the 2016/17 season. Three matches have finished in draws, both Matsatsantsa and the Citizens have claimed one win. The Tshwane side is unbeaten in two home matches in the rivalry, recording one win and one draw.

When the teams met earlier this season in Cape Town, City claimed a 2-0 win thanks to goals from Roland Putsche and Craig Martin. The Citizens are unbeaten in their last three league matches against United.

SuperSport’s line-up from their 1-1 draw with Highlands on December 23: Williams, Kekana, Khumalo, Daniels, Bhasera, Mbule (Letsholonyane 72’), Ntshangase, Mokoena, Modiba, Rusike, Keene.

City’s line-up from their 3-2 win over Celtic on December 22: Leeuwenburgh, Mkhize, Dove, Fielies, Seedat, Nodada, Modise (Rusike 60'), Ralani, Patosi (Roberts 70'), Norodien (Links 53'), Mthembu.
