Genoa director Giorgio Perinetti has revealed Premier League interest in their Ivorian attacker Christian Kouame – but says the player will not be leaving in the January transfer window.
The 21-year-old signed for the Serie A club in July 2018 and has enjoyed a fine campaign in Italy’s top flight thus far.
Kouame has racked up three goals and four assists in 19 Serie A appearances, and his partnership with Polish striker Krzysztof Piatek has been particularly impressive.
The Italian media has speculated on a move to one of the league’s bigger teams, with Napoli listed the most likely to move for the West African star.
Perinetti has confirmed talks with the Neapolitans, but insists any move for Kouame will have to wait until at least the end of the current campaign.
Perinetti explained: “First of all, I want to make clear that nobody is leaving Genoa in January. Having said that, some might want to get a deal in early to stave off competition.
“We did have a meeting with Napoli for Kouame. The collaborators are here and we'll have another encounter with them over the next week.
"There are at least two Premier League clubs who want Kouame, as they often send scouts to observe him. I look at Kouame and Krzysztof Piatek and am happy to have both at Genoa."
Kouame is set to be back in action for Genoa when the Serie A resumes after the winter break next weekend, January 19-20.
