Kaizer Chiefs head coach Ernst Middendorp is under no illusions of the problems hampering the club this season.
The Amakhosi currently linger in 8th place on the Absa Premiership log standings, 12 points behind leaders Bidvest Wits. The Soweto giants face the Clever Boys in Braamfontein on Wednesday evening.
Chiefs managed just one shot on target in their 2-1 defeat to the Brazilians over the past weekend, further underlining the problems faced by the club in front of goal. The Glamour Boys have scored a mere 18 goals in 16 league matches.
“I think we have to design a programme in training, that’s our job as coaches. We have to go into it and really [improve] immediately in the next training session,” said Middendorp as quoted by KickOff.com when quizzed about Chiefs goalscoring struggles.
“We need to get the players into those situations and moments that they have in the game, and I agree with this point fully. But we definitely had, in the final third, not the right decisions and movements at the right times.
Middendorp continued: "I was wondering which direction the strikers were moving, sometimes closing the space for their own teammate, but we’ll analyse it and go into it and try to find what has to be done better.”
