Kaizer Chiefs have started their search for Itumeleng Khune's temporary replacement.

The Bafana Bafana shot-stopper will miss the rest of the season with a shoulder injury and despite boasting Namibia international Virgil Vries within their ranks, Chiefs are eager to bolster their goalkeeping department.

Vries came under immense scrutiny following the club's 2-1 defeat to Mamelodi Sundowns with his costly error late in the game having gifted the Brazilians all three points.

According to Soccer Laduma, Thela Ngobeni could be on his way back to the club. Currently on the books of Mamelodi Sundowns, the 29-year-old rose through the ranks at Naturena before joining the Chloorkop-based club.

Ngobeni's current deal expires at the end of the season, opening the opportunity of Chiefs signing the shot-stopper on a pre-contract, but Soccer Laduma report that the club are eager to sign the goalkeeper during the current transfer window to combat Khune's absence.

Another name thrown into the mix is Reyaad Pieterse who also previously donned the colours of the Amakhosi.

Pieterse who left Chiefs in search of more regular playing time, joined Sundowns from SuperSport United last year.
