Lobi Stars defender Solomon Kwambe says his team will not get carried away by their win over Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League last weekend.
The Nigerian side defeated the 2016 African champions 2-1 at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium in Enugu last Friday, coming from behind to secure victory thanks to goals from Yaya Kone and Mathias Martins.
Claiming the scalp of the South African giants was a great way to start their Group A campaign, but tough challenges lie ahead – starting with their West African derby away to Ivorian giants ASEC Mimosas this coming Saturday.
Taking it one game at a time will be Stars’ approach, according to Kwambe.
“We know that many people did not believe we would beat Mamelodi Sundowns; that’s why I am very happy with our victory,” the defender is quoted by Nigeria’s Football Live.
“I am excited and I believe we can go far in this competition, but we will will not get carried away.
“We will just play it each match at a time and see what the end will bring for us eventually,” Kwambe concluded.
Stars’ match against ASEC will be held at Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny in Abidjan on Saturday, while the other Group A match sees Sundowns at home to 2017 winners Wydad Casablanca.
